SkyTribe privacy policy
Effective 8 September 2026. This policy explains what SkyTribe collects, why it is used, who receives it, and how to delete it. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to hello@skytribe.org.
Information we collect
Account and sign-in: your email address, display name, sign-in provider identifier, verification status and login timestamps. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and are not visible to SkyTribe. If you use Apple or Google sign-in, that provider sends us the profile information you approve.
Profile and community activity: the profile details you choose to add, including photo, bio, country, home base, pilot ratings and gear; plus follows, reactions, comments, messages, notifications, marketplace listings and feedback.
Flights and Skills: imported flight files, GPS tracks, timestamps, altitude and derived metrics; motion-sensor recordings from Skills sessions; analysis results, scores and terrain/replay artefacts. Location data can reveal where you fly, launch and land.
Media and integrations: photos or video you attach, device and app version details needed to process them, and identifiers and settings for integrations you connect. We never receive your Garmin password.
Service and security data: request identifiers, error logs, IP address and user agent where needed for security, diagnostics and recording consent.
How we use information
We use this information to create and secure your account; import, process, score and replay flights; provide community, messaging, marketplace and Skills features; apply your privacy choices; operate support; prevent abuse; and diagnose and improve reliability. We do not use your flight data for advertising.
Who sees what
Each flight is Public, Close friends or Private. You set a default and can change it on any single flight. You can hide the first and last five minutes of a flight from other pilots.
Public flights contribute, without your name, to the community heatmap in Explore. Private flights appear only in your account. Close-friends flights are shown only to the audience you selected.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data. We do not share your flights with anyone beyond the visibility you chose.
Service providers
SkyTribe uses Amazon Web Services for hosting, database storage, object storage, queues, logs and account authentication; Expo for push-notification delivery; MapTiler and Esri for maps and imagery; and Garmin Connect with Junction for connected flight imports. Apple and Google process sign-in when you choose those options. These providers receive only the information needed to perform their service and handle it under their own privacy terms.
Retention and deletion
We keep account and content data while your account is active or while it is needed to provide the service. Operational logs are retained for up to 30 days. Database backups are retained for up to seven days and then expire automatically.
You can delete your account in the app under Settings → Delete account. After you confirm, SkyTribe revokes your account access and permanently removes your profile, flights, raw uploads, media, Skills recordings, messages and other user-generated content from active systems, including stored object versions. Deletion normally completes within a few minutes. Copies already present in encrypted database backups disappear as those backups expire, within seven days. A non-identifying completion record may be retained to demonstrate that the request was processed.
If you used Sign in with Apple, SkyTribe does not receive the Apple refresh token needed to revoke Apple's separate authorization automatically. After deleting your SkyTribe account, remove SkyTribe under your Apple Account's Sign in with Apple settings. You can also ask a privacy question or request help with access, correction or deletion by emailing hello@skytribe.org. You can disconnect Garmin in the app at any time and withdraw optional sharing by changing a flight or profile privacy setting.
Security and international processing
We use access controls, encryption in transit and encrypted storage. SkyTribe and its providers may process information outside your country, including in Australia and other locations where our providers operate. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Children
SkyTribe is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so it can be removed.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service changes. We will update the effective date above and provide additional notice in the app when a change materially affects how information is used.
